This is Jazz @ it's finest. It is truely sad that we Americans don't appreciate our own music as much as the Europeans & Asians. Here in Washington,D.C. we lost our only Jazz radio station in Febrero 2008 & now we are without a jazz outlet. There are @ least 5 "Hip-Slop" & "Crap" stations in the area; but no jazz. These popular genres are here today;but see if the can stand the test of time. Jazz is as constant as the northern sky.SincerelyColonel Santo A. Chase,USA(Ret.)

I loved that piano solo that Bobby Timmons does, particularly the part at 5:50.

Yes, mr Blacksmith! I'm European, but I can imagine that you must be very proud of all these great african american jazz artists. I say, thank you for all this wonderful music!

Some pianists are Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Count Basie, and Thelonius Monk. Listen to the masters. The more listen to, the more other artists you know, so the more you listen to and it just snowballs.

I know I'm asking a lot.

Kind of Blue by Miles Davis for modal jazz.I'd also pick up A Night In Tunisia (album) by the Jazz Messengers. It was the Morgan/Shorter lineup, both great players. If you want important, I'd go way back to the Ellington band and Louis Armstrong. There's a compilation cd of recordings by Louis Armstrong's Hot Five and Seven bands. Might be a little tough to get into at first, but the man was a genius. If you're looking for important...
